These are the rest of the hiragana characters. They are made by simply adding
higori (the two little lines - " - ) or maru (the little circle - o - ) to
the upper right corner of the character.

As you can see, there are two ways to write JI (じ and ぢ) and ZU (ず and
づ). JI and ZU are written じ and ず except in the following situations
(where ぢ and づ) are used:
1)when a word beginning with chi or tsu is
placed after another element in a compound word (chi then changes into ji, and
is written ぢ).
EXAMPLE : はなぢ - nose bleed
hanaji= はな(nose)+ち(blood)
EXAMPLE : みかずき-new moon mikazuki=みか(new)+つき(moon)
2)when, in
a word, zu is after tsu, or ji after chi
EXAMPLE : つづく - to continue (tsuzuku)
EXAMPLE : ちぢむ- to shrink (chijimu)
Now, as usual,
some practice words for these hiragana:
ひだり - left
みぎ - right
うで - arm
でんわ - phone
こども - child
まど - window
かばん - bag
ぎんこう - bank
みず - water
ごぜん - morning, A.M.
ごご - afternoon, P.M.
かぞく - family
